_{Carroll Herritz, age 92 of Janesville, WI died on Monday, December 4,2017 at Cedar Crest in Janesville. She was born in Baraboo, WI to Henry and Mareta (Knoop) Manthey. She was united in marriage to Leonard Herritz on August 11, 1957 at St. John’s  Lutheran Church, Baraboo.  Leonard preceded Carroll in death on April 26, 1986. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Janesville since 1970.  She was a 1945 graduate of Baraboo High School.  In addition to the job of raising a family, she was a waitress at the Main Restaurant working the night shift 11-7 making lunch bucket meals for the workers at Badger Ordinance and later working there in the ”slitter house”-she slit sheets that ended up being casings for gun powder, then worked on the line at Flambeau Plastics and was the Union President , and was employed at numerous grocery stores to demo foods.  Her life-long passion though, was baking.  Whenever she was asked to make a cake for that “special occasion,” her artistic instincts would kick in high gear and create a masterpiece.  That also happened when she made cookies.  There were two local newspapers that featured her baking skills.  The first one was in 1972 with the Christmas theme and the other was in 2008 she was dubbed as “The Cookie Momster”.  She would make chocolate chip cookies and send them to her son, Alex, who was working in Iraq.  Even beyond the age of 90 she baked dozens of cookies just to give away to friends, church activities, card club and whenever there was a holiday she would go all-out to create that piece of art.  Many recipients of her cookies would comment that they were “too pretty” to eat. She was a devout member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Janesville; faithfully attended bible study and bible class , was a greeter, worked at funerals, and was a member of The Evening Guild.  She was also a volunteer to deliver Meals on Wheels and worked with the Breakfast for Kids program.  She was very active even into her early 90’s.  She loved to play cards-euchre, 500, hand & foot, king’s corner or any game someone would play like Triple Yahtzee and Mexican Train.  She enjoyed being in card clubs and hosting them, also.  Saturday nights you couldn’t get her away from watching The Lawrence Welk Show. She also loved to watch Shirley Temple movies.        Survivors include: two sons: Micheal Schenkat of Whitewater and Alex Herritz of Janesville one daughter: Melody (Steven) Schulte of Tomahawk, two grandchildren:  Dustin and Amber, one brother: Tyrone Manthey of Baraboo, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Janiece and sister-in-law, Carna Manthey.                                                                              We would like  to thank all of Carroll’s friends, especially those from her church for all of their assistance which allowed her to stay in her home until her final illness, and to the staff at Cedar Crest during her short time there.   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 709 Milton Avenue, Janesville with Rev. James Janke officiating. Visitation will be at the Church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the time of services. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Rock Hill Cemetery, rural North Freedom, WI.
